CISNJ NWDI/Performance Learning Center student wins WAL-MART Scholarship.

Communities In Schools of New Jersey NWDI/PLC (Performance Learning Center) graduating senior Lakema Fowler, 19 (below) wins a four year Wal-Mart Scholarship. Lakema dropped out of high school at 16 because she felt school was "boring". She quickly realized that life in the sometimes harsh streets of Newark were no substitute for an education and a good plan.The innovative NWDI/Performance Learning Center at the YESS Center in downtown Newark offered her a "Second Chance." Lakema has taken that chance and run with it. This year she will graduate from Drakes College of Business and the PLC (with a 3.6 and 4.0 GPA respectively.)
